Crank Shaft
Bearing, Gears, spacer and circlip installed onto the crankshaft.
Conrods installed. ARP bolts require torqueing to 40lbs/ft. Not all ARP bolts are the same, check the instructions that come with them. Standard bolts are torqued to 32lbs/ft.
Head Studs
Installing the head studs. Blind holes need anti sieze lube, I used regular copper grease. On the open holes that go through to the case I used Hylomar Blue.
Distributor
New seal, Distributor gear end float measured out at 1.10mm. Anything between 0.40???mm and 1.25mm is acceptable. As I will be using a Porsche style cooling fan and a 205 distributor I had some clearance issues. Firstly, with the nut to tighten the distributor sat inbetween the distributor and the shroud so it was inaccessible. I flipped the clamp over the bolt sat towards the back of the engine. Doing this caused the clamp and nut to foul the case. I cut the nut down and notched the case to clear the clamp.
Cam bearings
Double thrust. I bought two sets bearing and used each half of the thrust bearing from each. As there's no tangs when you do this on a Type 4 I put two small blobs of loctite to hold the bearing halves in place as recommended by Jake Raby.
Main Bearings
Pins needed to be cleaned.
Camshaft
I'm using a WebCam #119 grind, a Scat Helical cam gear and a 30mm Shadek pump. This combo means that the cam bolts will need clearancing so as not to foul the oil pump. As per recomendations on Shoptalkforums the bolts will need to recessed into the cam gear by 0.040 thou. Webcam supplies the cam bolts already machined down.
Crank, rods, bearing and gears.
